Caparzo
Caparzo has represented for over forty years an important piece of the history of Brunello di Montalcino and a tradition linked to a production of wines with a classic and elegant style. Its labels are among the best excellences of this famous Tuscan corner of wine, known by enthusiasts from all over the world for its extraordinary Sangiovese-based reds. The estate takes its name from the locality Caparzo, which is located on the side of the ancient medieval village of Montalcino. The property covers a total of 200 hectares, of which about half are devoted to the cultivation of vines and the rest to olive groves and woods, which help to ensure a rich biodiversity of the natural ecosystem. The vineyards have been planted in the most suitable areas at an altitude between 250 and 300 meters above sea level, facing south and south-east. The cool and continental climate, always well ventilated and with considerable temperature variations between day and night temperatures, is perfect for bringing quality grapes to ripeness.
The vines have their roots in clayey and sandy soils, but with considerable differences between the individual plots. The Sangiovese destined to produce the grapes for Brunello is cultivated in areas with different soils and microclimates, so that, at the time of blending, a balanced red can be obtained every year, the sum of complementary characteristics, which contribute to giving harmony and complexity. In the “La Casa” area, the vineyards are located on soils rich in shale and marl; in the locality "La Caduta" the soils are rocky, mainly composed of sandstone and schist; the vineyards of “Il Cassero” are characterized by lands made up of sands with the presence of schists, similar to those of the parcel of “San Pietro-Caselle”. The attention of the winery is obviously focused on the cultivation of Sangiovese, however among the rows there are other vines: the historic moscadello and the international grapes cabernet sauvignon, syrah, petit verdot chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and traminer. Caparzo wines are known for having maintained their identity over time, without easy concessions to the fashions of the moment. They are labels with a refined and traditional face, which allow you to know the authentic face of Montalcino and its great reds.
