Caol Ila
Caol Ila, a historic whiskey company founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, former owner of a Glasgow distillery, was born on the north-eastern coast of the island of Islay, in Scotland. The company has undergone frequent closures and changes of ownership in its history, which however have not compromised its production capacity: it remains to this day the distillery that produces the most whiskey on the island of Islay. Caol Ila recently joined the Diageo group. Always synonymous with quality, Caol Ila whiskeys are produced from the water of Lake Nam Ban and from the malted barley of Port Ellen and with a production of 3.5 million liters per year constitutes an essential base also for the blends of other whiskeys from the island, such as Bell's, White Horse and Johnnie Walker .
Caol Ila
A curiosity: the name Caol Ila is actually pronounced "Cull Eela", and is the Gaelic name of the Sound of Islay, which separates the island from the Jura. For some, the distillery's pronunciation is as remote as its location, situated as it does on the rugged east coast, where it has been hidden from view since 1846.
