400 Conejos

Number one among Mexican mezcals, 400 Conejos is synonymous with quality artisanal mezcal produced solely from Espadin agave. Born as a tribute to the ancient Mesoamerican traditions which only allowed priests to establish a channel of communication with the divine, which were based on the ritual consumption of drinks obtained from agave. The gods of these drinks were called "centzon-totchtin", or 400 rabbits, in the Nahuatl language, which evoked the idea of a very large and incalculable number. Each bottle would have contained the essence of one of these spirits, each characterized by its own personality. Those who drank an agave distillate, therefore, would have been monitored by one of the 400 rabbits, without knowing which rabbit it was.
