Description
Rocca de Piro is a wine that pays homage to the Grumello Castle which belonged to the De Piro family in the 14th century, a structure consisting of two separate structures, connected by a wall that overlooks the hill cultivated with Nebbiolo delle Alpi.
It is obtained only from Nebbiolo grapes, which locally takes the name of Chiavennasca. It ferments with a very long maceration of 110 days in wooden vats, after which it ages for 18 months in wooden vats and barrels, then in cement and bottle.
Ruby red in color, the nose recalls hints of rose petals and wild berries, which are accompanied by notes of aromatic herbs and graphite. The palate is mineral and linear, with well-smoothed tannins that support a fruity taste with hints of white pepper.
It is excellent with hearty first courses and stewed meats, as well as mushroom and game dishes.
