Description
Malbec Amaru from El Esteco is a wine made entirely from Malbec grapes grown in the Calchaquí Valley in northwest Argentina, at an altitude of approximately 1,800 meters. This unique terroir is characterized by sandy and alluvial soils, strong temperature variations and low rainfall. The name Amaru comes from an indigenous deity that symbolizes water and the fertility of the region.
After manual harvesting, the grapes undergo pre-fermentation maceration at 8°C in stainless steel tanks, followed by fermentation with indigenous and selected yeasts. The wine is then aged for 9 months, a part of which matures in French and American oak barriques, while the other is stored in stainless steel, to achieve a balance between fruit and wood. Malolactic fermentation occurs in contact with the wood to round out the tannins.
On the nose it presents intense aromas of plum and raisins, enriched by subtle notes of chocolate and oak. On the palate the sweet and soft tannins create a pleasant harmony between fresh red fruits and the medium touch of wood, with a long and elegant persistence.
This red wine pairs perfectly with traditional Argentine dishes based on red meat, aged cheeses and smoked meats.
