Description
With its foundation in 1962, the Spier company ranks among the oldest companies in South Africa located in the Stellenbosch area, one of the most renowned wine-growing areas in South Africa.
The Chenin Blanc grapes are harvested manually from three vineyard plots, inhabited by 40-year-old vines. The short distance from the sea allows the development of the particular flavour that characterizes this wine. Once brought to the cellar, the grapes are de-stemmed, left to macerate for a few hours and then pressed. Alcoholic fermentation follows in wooden barrels and an ageing of about 14 months in 45% new barrels.
In the glass the wine is straw yellow in colour. The olfactory profile is outlined on aromas of dried apricot, peach, citrus, almond, with a spicy finish reminiscent of vanilla. In the mouth the wine is savoury, consistent and intense in its aromatic expression.
To be paired with chicken with almonds and risotto.
