Description
The Chocolate Block of the South African winery Boekenhoutskloof is located in the Western Cape region, in South Africa, precisely in the Swartland district, known for the production of robust and full-bodied red wines of high quality. It is obtained from a skilful blend of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, with small additions of Viognier, whose composition varies from year to year in order to make the most of the specific growing season and the vines that contribute to define the charm and personality of the wine.
The harvest takes place over 2 weeks and the vinification proceeds separately by grape variety: after fermentation, the base wines obtained from Syrah and Cinsault mature in French oak barrels and barrels, Grenache only in cask, while Cabernet Sauvignon is the the only variety that rests in new French oak barrels. The refinement period takes a total of 13-16 months, before blending and the final bottling phase.
Wine with an intense ruby red color of great concentration, it expresses itself on the nose on perceptions of dark berry fruit such as black cherry and blueberry, and then passes on notes of cardamom, sweet tobacco and coffee, embellished with delicate floral sensations. The same aromatic heritage returns to the palate, defining an exceptionally complex and juicy sip, with additions of ripe plum, violet and black olives, as well as hints of cloves and licorice in the finish. It impresses with an elegant and intriguing, layered taste, with very fine tannins and a velvety texture.Suitable to accompany stews and spiced meats, it goes well with wild game in general.
