Description

Syrah from the Hughes&Hughes line is produced by Mewstone, a winery located in Tasmania and founded in 2011 by brothers Matthew and Jonathan, with the intention of producing low intervention wines, often with little or no added sulphites. It comes from vineyards located on the Coal River, Derwent and the banks of the D'Entrecasteaux canal.

The wine is produced by vinifying whole grapes and bunches (5%) with indigenous yeasts for 21 days. After racking, the wine ages in oak barrels (15% new). The wine is bottled without clarification or filtration.

Ruby red in colour, the nose is dominated by aromas of violets and red and black fruits, as well as notes of coffee and spices.

It is excellent in combination with red meat and pork, both roasted and stewed, as well as with aged cheeses.
