Description

The Pinot Noir Pied de Cuve of the Hughes&Hughes line is produced by Mewstone, a winery located in Tasmania and founded in 2011 by brothers Matthew and Jonathan, with the intention of producing low intervention wines, often with little or no added sulphites. It comes from a single vineyard located along the banks of the D'Entrecasteaux canal.

The name of the wine derives from the fact that a week before the harvest a pied de cuve was prepared, i.e. a natural yeast, then placed in the tank together with 40% of whole bunches. The racking takes place 18 days later and the must is aged in oak barrels (35% new) for 10 months. The wine is bottled without clarification or filtration.

Ruby red in colour, the nose is dominated by floral and red fruit aromas such as strawberries, cherries and raspberries, with a light spicy note.

It is excellent in combination with roast pork and red meat, as well as aged cheeses.
