Description
Boekenhoutskloof's Porcupine Ridge Merlot is a fine wine from the renowned Coastal Region, made with grapes selected primarily from the Helderberg vineyards and the surrounding Stellenbosch area. This Merlot is an authentic expression of the unique terroir of these regions. The Porcupine Ridge range stands out for offering delicious and accessible wines, which reflect their commitment to conserving the biodiversity of their estate. It takes its name from the porcupine, a characteristic inhabitant of the farm.
The winemaking follows a meticulous procedure that begins with a cold maceration for two days, in order to extract colors and aromas, followed by a controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Specific yeast strains are selected to enhance the aromatic and taste profiles of Merlot. The refinement in old French oak barrels adds complexity and structure to the wine, without overpowering its varietal characteristics.
Visually it presents an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it releases fruity aromas of red plums and cranberries, enriched with delicate accents of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. In the mouth, the wine reveals an agile and elegant structure, enriched by hints of berries and fine-grained tannins which lead to a vibrant and persistent finish.
This Merlot pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including grilled red meats, charcuterie boards and mushroom entrees. Its versatility and elegance make it ideal for accompanying convivial moments and refined dinners.
