Description
Spier's Pinotage Vintage Selection is the best expression of the Pinotage variety, typical of the South African area of Stellenbosch where the winery is located. The cross between Cinsault and Pinot Nero made in the first half of the 20th century has become part of the local winemaking tradition and finds some interesting expressions, of which this is an example.
The grapes, 100% Pinotage, are harvested manually to allow the best selection of the bunches. Following the destemming, the grapes are left to cold macerate for a couple of days in steel tanks. It carries out alcoholic fermentation in steel and malolactic fermentation in both French and American oak barriques, in which the wine ages for 14 months.
In the glass the wine is ruby red in color, with bright purple reflections. The intensity of the hints of crunchy red fruit, chocolate and roasted coffee strike the nose. In the mouth it is robust but balanced, with the right tannic texture and freshness.
Ideal in combination with stewed red meats and aged cheeses.
