Description
The Mastiha of Skinos is a distillate born on the island of Chios, in the Aegean Sea. The peculiar ingredient that distinguishes it is the resin of the mastiha tree, or mastic tree, which has been collected on the island for centuries.
The mastiha is harvested once a year by making incisions on the trunk of the tree. The mastic resin is infused in alcohol and left to macerate and then distilled in a copper still. Subsequently, sugar syrup and water are added until the alcohol content of 30% is reached.
On the nose it is characterized by vegetal aromas, with intense hints of resin. The sip is bittersweet, with notes of carrot, centriole, mint, celery and with a balsamic finish.
Skinos Mastiha is drunk neat or used in the preparation of cocktails.
