Description

The Sicilian red wine Ammasso is produced by the Sicilian winery Barone Montalto, founded in 2000, which is based in Santa Ninfa, in the province of Trapani. The estate manages about 400 hectares of vineyards, partly owned and partly by contributors, located in the Bèlice valley, in the Valley of the Temples and in Noto, in the south-eastern part of Sicily.

It is made with Nero d'Avola, Nerello Mascalese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes harvested in a late period, with partial drying of the bunches in the vineyard, which is then completed in a thermo-regulated and ventilated loft with a dehydration of the berries. After fermentation, the wine ages for 8–10 months in small medium-toasted wooden barrels, followed by 4 months in the bottle.

Ruby red in colour, it offers aromas of ripe red fruit and candied fruit, black cherry in alcohol and spices. The palate is warm and opulent, with a long finish.

Ideal in combination with baked pasta, roasted and stewed red meats and aged cheeses.
