Description
The Eruzione 1614 Nerello Mascarese Sicilia by Planeta is a wine of exceptional Sicilian origin, grown on the lava flows of the historic eruption of 1614. The soils, rich in minerals and with excellent exposure, contribute to the uniqueness of this Nerello Mascalese, which it grows at altitude on black soil, making it intensely fragrant and elegant in structure. Agriculture is strictly organic, and includes practices such as spontaneous flora and the minimal use of sulfur and copper, enriching the biodiversity of the soil.
The harvest takes place at the end of October with the grapes harvested and refrigerated immediately, then carefully selected by hand. Fermentation takes place in concrete and steel tanks, remaining on the skins for a period ranging from 16 to 40 days. Destemming follows delicate processes to preserve the qualities of the grapes. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in steel followed by aging in oak barrels for 12 months.
It has a bright red color and expresses, through its compact and elegant tannins, the sweetness of berries and currants with a light salty touch that invites a second sip. On the nose, notes of incense, medicinal herbs, beeswax, hibiscus and wild fennel stand out, reflecting its volcanic origin and the environment from which it comes.
The wine lends itself to bold and characteristic pairings, ideal with game, truffle dishes, rock fish in complex sauces, cheeses and cured meats. Its structure and distinctive character make it a versatile companion for rich, intense foods, enhancing both the dish and the wine itself.
