Description
Château Calon-Ségur is one of the oldest château in St. Estèphe. In 1147 it belonged to the bishop Monsignor of Calon, later it was bought by the Marquis of Ségur, an important person in the history of the Bordeaux region, to which Lafite and Latour also belonged. The heart-shaped logo was chosen thinking of the phrase that the Marquis must have said: "I make my wine in Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon". In 2012, the château was purchased for $ 215 million by the French insurance company Suravenir.
The parcel vinification takes place in 70 conical stainless steel vats, the size of which varies from 25 to 120 hl. Aging takes place in 100% new French oak barrels for about 20 months.
In the glass the wine appears of a deep purple red color. The olfactory profile opens on notes of cooked fruit, cherries and black currants, licorice and spices. The sip is warm and powerful, with fine tannins and an acidic shoulder that gives balance to the palate. Very persistent finish.
Ideal in combination with spit-roasted game, roast duck and larded roast meats.
