Description
The 1er Grand Cru Classé A is a wine from Château Angélus, whose date of birth is 1910, the year in which the de Bouard family arrived in St. Emilion. Today the vineyards extend over 39 hectares, of which 50% is Merlot, 47% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. Since 2021 Château Angélus is certified organic.
The 1er Grand Cru Classé A by Château Angélus is a blend of Merlot (60%) and Cabernet Franc (40%). The grapes first undergo a cryomaceration which lasts a maximum of 5 days. Subsequently, the fermentation is started in whole clusters in both concrete, steel and wooden vats. The malolactic fermentation takes place instead in new French oak barrels. Finally the wine ages for 18-24 months in new French oak barrels. On average each year the production of this wine is 8500 bottles.
Ruby red in color with purple hues, the nose reveals a rich and multifaceted bouquet of aromas of black fruits (blueberries, currants, blackberries) and cherries. The taste is smooth, the tannins are silky and enveloping, the finish is very long.
Château Angélus' 1er Grand Cru Classé A is the ideal accompaniment to red meat and stewed or braised game dishes, as well as aged cheeses.
