Description
Château Valandraud is a prestigious name in Bordeaux, and in particular in Saint-Émilion. Its history is relatively recent compared to some of the region's older estates, yet it has quickly earned a reputation for excellence in the wine world. Jean-Luc Thunevin at its helm was among the precursors of the "garage wines" movement, small limited edition productions of very high quality wines. The Valandraud vineyards cover approximately 9 hectares and are mainly planted with Merlot grapes, but also include Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec.
The winemaking takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, concrete and wood, with malolactic fermentation and subsequent aging for 18-30 months in new oak barriques.
It has an intense and deep ruby red color. It stands out on the nose for its ripe notes of cassis and blueberry, enriched with touches of vanilla and licorice. On the palate it expresses a rare harmony between power and finesse, proving to be a structured wine of notable persistence.
It pairs beautifully with grilled red meats, mushroom dishes and mature cheeses.
