Description
Marqués de Vargas Gran Reserva is a red wine of great elegance and complexity, produced in the historic "Pradolagar" estate in the Rioja region. This wine is made with a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo grapes from 40-year-old vineyards, grown on soils composed of calcareous gravel elements and stratified and colluvial molasse soils, which give depth and structure to this wine.
The grapes are hand-picked into crates and refrigerated to preserve their freshness. After manual selection, fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts in tanks suited to the type of soil. The aging takes place for a total of 24 months, with 16 months in French oak barrels followed by 8 months in American oak barrels, to achieve an optimal balance between fruit, tannins and spicy notes.
This wine presents concentrated aromas of black fruit, intertwined with complex spicy nuances and underlying balsamic notes that add freshness and harmony. On the palate it is full-bodied, with well-polished tannins and a long finish. Elegant and powerful, it has a great capacity for aging.
It is ideal with roast red meats, stews and mature cheeses.
