Description
Barón de Ley's Rioja Reserva is an expression of Rioja wines with a Mediterranean character, produced using Tempranillo, Graciano and Maturana grapes. These are grown in vineyards located in the Rioja Oriental subregion, mainly in the Mendavia and Los Almendros estates in Ausejo. The grapes from this area give the wine a concentrated and balanced character.
Winemaking involves manual harvesting and selection of the grapes, with fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, seeking the perfect balance between extraction and preservation of aromas. The refinement takes place for at least 20 months in American oak barrels, before completing the refinement process in the bottle.
Visually, the wine is clear and brilliant, with a medium intensity ruby red hue. The nose is complex, with aromas of red fruits and sweet spices on a balsamic background. On the palate, after a powerful attack, a soft and enveloping sensation develops, which gradually extends to end in a persistent creaminess, with an aftertaste reminiscent of berries and nuances of wild herbs.
This wine pairs beautifully with traditional Rioja dishes such as patatas a la riojana but also with stews and roasts.
