Description
Vega Sicilia Unico is a red wine produced by the historic winery located in the Ribera del Duero region, Spain. The Vega Sicilia estate extends for approximately 1,000 hectares, of which 210 are dedicated to viticulture, with 19 different types of soil divided into 64 parcels, each with unique characteristics. The main grape variety used for this wine is Tinto Fino, with a little Cabernet Sauvignon added.
Winemaking involves manual harvesting of the grapes, followed by fermentation in 225-liter French and American oak barrels. The wine is then transferred to large 22,000 liter wooden barrels for a refinement period that lasts at least 10 years, one of the longest in the world. This long maturation process gives the wine infinite complexity and unparalleled depth.
On the nose, Vega Sicilia Unico initially presents a subtle bouquet, but on the palate it reveals itself to be broad, rich and succulent. The structure is imposing, but the wine maintains a silky texture, with remarkable concentration and extraordinary finesse. It's a pleasure to enjoy now, but it will continue to evolve and improve in the bottle for decades.
This wine pairs perfectly with grilled or roasted red meat dishes, game and mature cheeses.
