Description
Puglia Nero di Troia by Masseria Ficarigna is produced with the indigenous Apulian Nero di Troia vine. With its wines, Masseria Ficarigna is the spokesperson for the most important vines of the Salento peninsula. The depiction of the pig on the label plays with the mythological importance that this animal had for both the Greeks and the Romans: a symbol of strength, loved by the gods, to which it was also sacrificed.
The grapes, harvested in September, are immediately taken to the cellar and subjected to pre-fermentation cryomaceration (0-4°C) lasting 4/6 days. The alcoholic fermentation process follows at a controlled temperature (24°C) for 10-14 days, to allow the fruitier components to express themselves at their best.
In the glass, the red wine has a bright ruby color with purple hues. The nose is complex with a satisfying aromatic profile of red and black fruits, plums, ripe sour cherries, dark chocolate and toasted hazelnuts, embellished with noble sweet spices. Warm and full on the palate, with a juicy and round fruit supported by the right acidity. The tannins are smooth and give the wine a long and satisfying finish.
Excellent to combine with rich second courses based on red meat or game. Excellent with grilled dishes with spicy seasonings and aged cheeses.
