La Chimay Rouge Première by Chimay
The Trappist red beer Chimay Rouge Première , is produced by the Trappist monks of Scourmont Abbey (near Chimay, a municipality in the province of Hainaut), who have been brewing beer for over 170 years. First brewed in 1862, it is one of the Abbey's oldest beers. For this reason, in larger formats, it is called "Première". As an authentic Trappist beer, it is produced under the supervision of monks and the proceeds from sales are spent almost exclusively on social welfare projects.
How is Chimay Rouge Première produced?
The monks prefer to brew beer from local ingredients. For example, the hops (Hallertau Mittelfrüh variety) come from the Vodelée countryside and the water comes from the monastery well. This top-fermented beer is neither filtered nor pasteurized.
Sight, nose, eye and palate
