Chimay Rouge Premiére by Chimay
Trappist red beer Chimay Rouge Premiére , is brewed by the Trappist monks of the abbey of Scourmont (near Chimay, a municipality in the province of Hainaut), who have been brewing beer for over 170 years. First brewed in 1862, it is one of the Abbey's oldest beers. For this reason, in larger formats, it is called "Premiére". As a true Trappist beer, it is brewed under the supervision of monks and the proceeds from sales are spent almost exclusively on social welfare projects.
How is Chimay Rouge Premiére produced?
Monks prefer to make beer from local ingredients. The hops for example (Hallertau Mittelfrüh variety) come from the countryside of Vodelée and the water is that of the well of the monastery. This top fermented beer is neither filtered nor pasteurized.
Sight, nose, eye and palate
Dark copper red in color, this beer expresses an excellent balance between fruity flavors (berries and raisins), hints of toasted bread and caramel.
What do you pair the Chimay Rouge Premiére with?
This Trappist beer is to be tried with ribs in barbecue sauce.
