Description
Dating back to the mid-16th century, the prestige of Château La Mission Haut-Brion began in 1682, when it passed into the hands of the Catholic church, or the friars de la Mission, to whom it owes its name, and to whom it belonged until the French Revolution. During the 1900s the American Woltner family purchased and substantially improved the property, from the cellar to the buildings. In 1983 it was purchased by Clarence Dillon, the owner of the neighboring winery, Château Haut-Brion.
The vinification takes place in large steel containers, while the refinement takes place in new French oak barrels, where the wine remains for approximately 22 months.
Deep garnet in color, the wine reveals itself on the nose with aromas of blueberries, redcurrant jelly, ripe plums and star anise, in addition to notes of red roses and vanilla. On the palate it is structured by a refreshing acidity and dense, ripe tannins. Persistent finish.
Château La Mission Haut-Brion pairs very well with roast pork stuffed with black olives and aromatic herbs or with stewed game.
