Description
Château Mouton Rothschild was born in vineyards located in the heart of the AOC Pauilllac, in the renowned Bordeaux wine region. It is one of the premier cru included in the Official Classification of Bordeaux Wines of 1855, a system desired by the Emperor Napoleon III on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of Paris, in order to make the best Bordeaux wines more recognizable even outside the borders of France . The wines were ordered from the first to the fifth cru based on the reputation of the cellar and the price, which at the time was a factor directly related to quality. Together with the other premier cru Grand Classé it is considered a legend that made the history of wine. Each vintage has a different label, designed by a contemporary painter, which represents the vineyard, the wine or a historical event.
It is mainly produced with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and with Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes, harvested entirely by hand, excluding the unripe bunches according to the principles of the green harvest. Fermentation takes place in wooden barrels at controlled temperatures. Subsequently the wine ages for 19-22 months in new oak barriques.
Château Mouton has a deep and intense ruby red color with purple hues. The nose opens with elegant hints of cedar and boysenberry, enriched with notes of tobacco, pepper and toasted. On the palate it is pleasantly rich, concentrated and opulent, with excellent freshness.
Perfect to accompany red meats, noble poultry and grilled meats, it is ideal in combination with game and aged cheeses.
