Description
Château Pontet-Canet has belonged to only 3 families in 2 centuries, which is a very rare case in the panorama of the Château Pontet, which have had numerous properties century after century. The company has belonged to the Tesseron family since the mid-1970s. Since 1994 it has been led by Alfred Tesseron, who has taken fundamental steps in developing the quality and goodness of the wines produced. One of the most important is his deep conviction of the non-interventional biodynamic approach in the vineyard, obtaining certification in 2005. During the following years many other Château followed the agronomic choice of Tesseron, for example Château Latour or Château Margaux.
Everything is done manually in Château Pontet-Canet, from harvesting the grapes to de-stemming. The vinification takes place with indigenous yeasts in wooden and concrete tanks. 50% of the wine is aged in new French oak barrels, 25% in 900-liter concrete amphorae and 15% in barrique for 16–18 months.
In the glass, the wine has a deep purple color. The nose opens up intense on aromas of black currant, blackberries and cedar peel in addition to notes of cloves, lavender and herbs of Provence. The sip is full, structured on dense and expertly smooth tannins and has a long and deep finish.
Château Pontet-Canet goes well with complex dishes based on white and red meats, with important cooking and aromas.
