Description
Les Forts de Latour is produced by Château Latour, one of the oldest wine estates in the renowned Bordeaux area. Its name is linked to the tower of St. Lambert, which dates back to 1400 and where the cellar was built, whose current building dates back to the second half of the 1800s. From the 1960s, a series of changes began in the agency. One of the most important was the transition from wooden barrels to steel containers for winemaking and organic certification obtained in 2019, while biodynamic agriculture is practiced in 50% of the vineyards. The wine takes its name from a historical territory in the "Enclos". The wine was labeled for the first time with this name in 1966 and thanks to the constant work on its quality has ensured that it reaches the level of a Médoc Grand Cru Classé.
The 2014 vintage is mostly composed of Cabernet Franc grapes, with lower percentages of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vinification takes place in steel containers at a controlled temperature, in which both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place. Aging takes place in 50-60% new French oak barrels.
In the glass the wine appears ruby red in color with garnet hints. On the nose there are hints of black fruits such as blueberry, frost, currant and blackberry, balsamic and spicy notes of vanilla and cinnamon. The sip is round, powerful, with elegantly smooth tannins and a persistent finish.
Ideal in combination with important dishes of red meat and noble poultry.
