Description
The Carruades of Château Lafite Rothschild is born in vineyards located in the heart of the AOC Pauilllac, in the renowned wine region of Bordeaux. It is one of the premier cru included in the Official Classification of Bordeaux Wines of 1855, a system wanted by Emperor Napoleon III on the occasion of the Universal Exposition in Paris, in order to make the best Bordeaux wines more recognizable even outside the borders of France . The wine takes its name from the plateau of Carruades, where some of the vineyards are located, west of the château.
It is mainly produced from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with the addition of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The grapes are harvested strictly by hand. Each vine is vinified separately. Subsequently the wine is aged for 16-20 months in barriques, 10% of which are new.
In the glass the wine appears of a deep ruby red color. On the nose there are hints of black currant and dark fruit. The sip is direct and broad, with fine and elegant tannins. It is advisable to decant the wine for at least 2 hours.
Carruades is ideal in combination with succulent dishes rich in red meats and game, from roasts to braised meats to stewed meats.
