Description
Château Lafite Rothschild is born in vineyards located in the heart of the AOC Pauilllac, in the renowned wine-growing region of Bordeaux. It is one of the premier cru included in the Official Classification of Bordeaux Wines of 1855, a system wanted by Emperor Napoleon III on the occasion of the Universal Exposition in Paris, in order to make the best Bordeaux wines more recognizable even outside the borders of France . The 2014 vintage was characterized by abundant rains between November and February, with temperatures warmer than usual.
It is mainly produced from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with small percentages of Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes. The grapes are harvested strictly by hand. Each vine is vinified in containers of different materials (steel, wood or concrete). Subsequently the wine ages for 18-20 months in 100% new French oak barrels.
In the glass the wine appears of an intense ruby red color. On the nose there are hints of violets, black fruits, cedar, with a light toasted note. The sip is powerful, vigorous and balanced, with a long finish. It is advisable to decant the wine for at least 2 hours.
Ideal in combination with important dishes of red meats and game, for example with a larded roast with prunes or roast duck with onions.
