Description

Château Chasse-Spleen was founded in the early 1700s. Among the hypotheses on the origin of his name there is the poetic one, namely that "spleen" (melancholy), a term used in the 19th century by Romanticism, was chosen following the visit of one of these two great poets: Lord Byron, who said during his visit to the château "What remedy to erase the spleen?", or from the poems of Charles Baudelaire. Since 1976 the property has been in the hands of the Merlaut family, who as a first measure expanded the vineyard park from 40 to 100 hectares. The quality of the wines was also increased thanks to the advice of the famous winemaker Emile Peynaud.

The grapes are vinified in a combination of various containers, both steel and wood, and then carry out the malolactic fermentation only in steel. Subsequently, the aging of the assembled wine takes place in French oak barrels (new wood 40%) for 12-15 months.

Purplish red in color, on the nose the wine reveals aromas of roses, cherries, black currants and ripe blackberries, in addition to delicate notes of chocolate, tobacco and nuts. The sip is dry, fresh and full, with dense and smooth tannins and leaves a long final sensation.

Château Chasse-Spleen goes very well with tagliatelle with pigeon sauce or baked pork loin wrapped in bacon.
