Description
Joseph Drouhin's Moulin-a-Vent is a red wine produced in the Beaujolais region, in the towns of Chénas and Romanèche-Thorins, between the Rhône and Saône-et-Loire departments. This wine is made exclusively from Gamay grapes, a grape variety typical of the area and particularly suited to the region's pink granite and manganese-rich soil. The appellation takes its name from an old 15th-century windmill, a historical monument that dominates the local wine landscape.
The winemaking follows the traditional Beaujolais method with semi-carbonic maceration of the whole bunch. The grapes and musts are carefully selected by partner producers according to a rigorous specification. The grapes are harvested by hand and subjected to careful selection both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The maceration lasts from 4 to 10 days and the wine ages in tanks for a period ranging from 10 to 12 months.
It has an intense and deep garnet color. On the nose it offers refined and intense aromas of flowers such as peony and rose, accompanied by notes of plum and often nuances of licorice. On the palate it is structured with good roundness and considerable elegance, with a long, fine and delicately enveloping persistence.
This red wine pairs perfectly with red meats, game and mature cheeses.
