Description
Château Rauzan-Ségla belonged to the Rauzan family for two centuries, until the mid-nineteenth century. At that time his wines were already very popular, for example by the American president Thomas Jefferson. Since 1984 the château has been owned by the Wertheimer family, owner of Chanel. The current building was built by the famous architect Peter Marino, who also promoted the Chanel building in Tokyo and the Dior boutique in New York.
Organic farming has been practiced in the vineyard since 2008. After the harvest, the grapes are vinified in steel vats of various sizes, from 41 to 220 hl, so as to allow an accurate vinification of the individual parcels. The malolactic fermentation always takes place in steel. Subsequently the wine is aged in French oak barrels (new wood from 50% to 60%) for 18-20 months, according to the needs of the vintage.
In the glass the wine appears purplish red. The olfactory profile moves on aromas of cooked red and black fruits (cherries, black currants, blackberries), in addition to pleasant spicy notes of cinnamon and cloves. The sip is enveloping, with fine and dense tannins and a pleasant freshness. Long finish.
Château Rauzan-Ségla is perfect paired with a roast beef stuffed with bacon and baked duck with red onions. It is advisable to let the wine settle for at least 3 hours before serving it.
