Description
Beaune Premier Cru Sizies by Joseph Drouhin is a fine red wine produced in the Burgundy region, in the northwest of Beaune. This wine is made from Pinot Noir grapes grown on clay soils that give a particular depth and structure to the final product. The origin of the name "Sizies" dates back to the 13th century and refers to Renaud de Sesie, an important landowner and mayor of Beaune in the Middle Ages.
The vinification is done with manual harvests and a careful selection of the grapes. After harvesting, the grapes undergo a 2-3 week maceration and fermentation in small open tanks, using indigenous yeasts to maintain the purity of the terroir. After a gentle pressing on a vertical press, the wine is aged for 14-16 months in French oak barrels.
It presents itself with a bright and clear ruby color. On the nose it offers an aromatic complexity that ranges from small berries such as black and red currants to more earthy notes of undergrowth. In the mouth it is broad and round, with cherry flavors enriched by light spicy nuances, showing an excellent balance and a long aromatic persistence.
This red wine pairs beautifully with game dishes or grilled red meats.
