Description
The Barolo of the Municipality of Serralunga d'Alba is produced by Pico Maccario, a company founded in 1997 by the brothers Pico and Vitaliano Maccario. It produces wines from the main Piedmontese denominations: Langhe, Monferrato, Gavi, Barolo and Barbaresco.
It consists exclusively of Nebbiolo grapes which are destemmed and gently pressed. The vinification takes place in thermo-controlled steel tanks and the maceration on the skins lasts 15-18 days with punching down. The wine thus obtained then ages in 25hl Slavonian oak barrels for 18 months, followed by a further 12 months of aging in the bottle.
Ruby red in color with garnet hues, it reveals a bouquet of aromas of dried roses, undergrowth, vanilla and spices to the nose. The sip is full, soft, with a persistent finish.
It is the ideal wine to pair with stewed game. Try it with seasoned cheeses.
