Description
La Bogliona is a 100% Barbera produced by the Scarpa winery, located on the hills of Nizza Monferrato (AT). The company was founded in the mid-19th century by the Venetian migrant Antonio Scarpa. It was the oenologist Mario Pesce who had great influence on the company's wines in the 1940s. Today Scarpa defines itself through 3 coordinates: sustainable agriculture, traditional winemaking and long aging in the bottle.
La Bogliona was born on the vineyards of Poderi Bricchi, which is located between Castel Rocchero and Acqui Terme. The vineyards are located at an altitude that varies between 350 and 400 m above sea level and have their roots in a soil composed mainly of clay with a low percentage of sand. After the traditional vinification, the Barbera matures in 50 hl French oak barriques, and then remains in the bottle for 2 years before being put on the market.
In the glass the wine appears ruby red with purple hues. The nose is enveloped by deep hints of flowers and red fruit, with mineral notes. The sip is powerful, warm and the body of the wine is well balanced between the notes of the fruit and the sapid and mineral ones.
Ideal in combination with succulent meat dishes, from boiled meats to ossobuco, from steak to duck to Cantonese.
