Perfect Pinot Noirs for
Romantic Wine Lovers

TAITTINGER, PRELUDE, BRUT, $70-$75 Pinot Noir is considered as “the most romantic of wines, with so voluptuous a perfume, so sweet an edge, and so powerful a punch that, like falling in love, they make the blood run hot and the soul wax embarrassingly poetic”. Pinot Noir distinctive aroma and flavor is irresistible. Its supple texture complements its complex and amazing character.

Pinot Noir features a broad range of bouquets, flavors and impressions. Pinot Noir can sometimes be light and crisp, other times full and rich. This Love Month, we will feature Pinot Noirs from the France’s Burgundy region which are remembered for their light, refreshing styles.

Champagne Wine Recommendations

TAITTINGER

* PRELUDE, BRUT, $70-$75
* 2000 BRUT, $70-$75

Fresh and light, the Prelude features the tastes of lemon peel, green apple, roasted nut and honeysuckle. It possesses well-balanced acidity, crisp character and persistent finish. Made from Grand Cru vineyards. 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay.

Bright, round and outstandingly balanced. Laced with flavors of roasted nut, lemon peel, grapefruit and honey aromas/flavors, the 2000 Brut posses medium full body and crisp, long finish. 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay. Drink through 2010.

TAITTINGER, 2002 COMTES DE CHAMPAGNE ROSE, BRUT, $220-$230

Light medium orange pink. Fragrant, fine aroma (rose petal, strawberry, cherry, walnut); medium bodied, crisp, richly flavored, and long on the palate, with a persistent, harmonious finish, tasting of plum, pineapple, roasted nut, honey, and strawberry). One of the best versions of this wine we've tasted. 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay. Drink through 2011.

Burgundy Wine Recommendations

J. FAIVELEY, 2005 BOURGOGNE, $20-$22

Vibrant light yellow hue. Aromas of fresh floral, lime blossom and toffee. Full-bodied and richly texture. Tastes of rose petal, raspberry, herbs and rhubarb. Drink though 2009.

LOUIS JADOT, 2005 BOURGOGNE, $19-$21

Light purple to pinkish rim. Refreshing strawberry notes. Tart, bitter palate. Berry-driven and flavorful. A delicately made, well-balanced wine made of 100 percent pinot. Medium long finish. Excellent. Drink through 2009.

JOSEPH DROUHIN

* 2005 VERO, BOURGOGNE, $19-$21
* 2005 CHOREY-LES-BEAUNE, $23-$25

Excellent Pinot Noirs. The Vero features the flavors of wild blackberries and raspberries with undertones of licorice. It is supple and finely flavored.

The Chorey Pinot Noir is more delicate and gentle. It is fruit-forward with rich berries aromas and flavors of cherry and raspberry. These fruity flavors are complemented by hints of pepper and new oak.

JOSEPH DROUHIN, 2005 GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN, $33-$35

Adequately rich wine. The 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin features the aromas of black cherry, fennel, black teas and roasted meats. Full-bodied and slight “tannic” chew characteristic of Drouhin wines.
