New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc & Pinot Noir Wine

2006 Huia Sauvignon Blanc

New Zealand is excelling in its wine-making industries. Their wines possess distinctive combination of fruity flavor, earthy undertones, crisp acidity, and vibrant tastes. The New Zealand wines possess intense varietal character and refreshing acidity.

This month we will feature distinctive, high quality Sauvignon Blanc, three Pinot Gris, two Riesling, and a Chardonnay.

Recommended New Zealand White Wines

Aurum, Central Otago
* 2006 PINOT GRIS, $16-$18
* 2006 RIESLING, $16-$18

Both extremely great wines. The 2006 Pinot Gris is sophisticated and elegant. Well-balanced and persistent finish. Tasting of pear, lemon peel and passion fruit. The 2006 Reisling is delicate and flavorful. Tastes of peach, grapefruit and jasmine. Moderate body. Clean in the palate and crisp on the finish.

Dog Point Vineyard, 2006 SAUVIGNON BLANC, MARLBOROUGH
$20-$22

Fragrant and pretty. Bursting with pink grapefruit, passion fruit, guava, pear, apple and line flavor. Great supple and smooth texture. Persistent and long to the palate. Excellent charming finish. Drink through 2008.

MARLBOROUGH

Delicate and crisp. Full-bodied with long-persistent finish. tasting of pear, white peach, and pink grapefruit. Drink through 2008.


Kim Crawford, 2006 SAUVIGNON BLANC, MARLBOROUGH

Intense with great depth. This Sauvignon possess great fruit flavors and long finish. Features the taste of green apple, lime and pineapple.


Huia, Marlborough

* 2006 PINOT GRIS, $19-$21

Complex and full-bodied. Both wines are elegant in style and character. The 2006 Sauvignon is delicate and distinct in flavor. Tastes of lime, mango and peach. The Pinot Gris is dry and clean. It features the flavors of peach, lichi nut, passion fruit. Noteworthy balance and finish. Drink through 2008.

Saint Clair, 2006 SAUVIGNON BLANC, WAIRAU RESERVE, MARLBOROUGH

Full-bodied Sauvignon. Intensely flavored and great in style. Distinct combination of Lime, grapefruit, passion fruit, lemon grass. Well-balanced acidity and character. Drink through 2008.

Spy Valley, 2005 CHARDONNAY, MARLBOROUGH
$23-$25

Appealing and enticing. Excellent flavor of peach, cherimoya, toast and roasted nut. Supple texture and well-balanced. Drink through 2008
